At times, everyone struggles with relationships.  Even successful people can feel overwhelmed by the pressures of a fast paced career or find it difficult to form meaningful connections with others. These are some examples of the normal life issues that I work with. Depression, anxiety, and other symptoms are a sign that one might not be coping with distress appropriately. I help my clients improve their emotional health and well-being by reinforcing a collaborative therapeutic relationship. Clients cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves to increase their self-efficacy and self-worth. I specialize in relationship difficulties and in working through unhealthy or abusive relationships. I also work with cultural adjustment and immigration struggles. The treatment is tailored for each individual. Some common elements include increasing awareness of long-standing maladaptive patterns and a focus on present-day functioning (i.e., limit setting, exploration of boundaries, increase of coping skills, work-life balance, and interpersonal communication).

Individual therapy to me is finding the balance between the old and the new: identifying old patterns, reflecting on how they help or hinder your current functioning, and making appropriate adjustments. Without support this is a daunting task. It can feel like being asked to stand on a ladder, juggle, and look great while doing it. I use a collaborative approach to help each client identify goals and break things down. We continuously explore themes across time, situations, and relationships. While I foster strong therapeutic relationships based on empathy and mutual respect, I also believe in transparency and will help you to challenge/change maladaptive ways of being.
I am a huge proponent of the power of a group. In group therapy the patterns that you notice occurring in your romantic, family, and work relationships will also occur in the group. The difference is that the group explores those patterns “here and now” as they are being observed by other members in the moment.  Clients give and receive feedback about their interpersonal experiences and make changes with the help of the group leader and other members.

Current groups:

Young Professionals Support Group
This is a long-term therapy group. The goal of the group is to provide a safe space for exploration of the challenging life transitions around graduation and the beginning of one's career. We will examine relationship difficulties, family stressors, and career concerns. This group is a great fit for young professionals in their twenties to mid-thirties.
In couples therapy I help clients identify communication patterns, emotional responses, and past experiences that are hindering their relationship. We will work collaboratively to examine limits and boundaries and reflect on how the current relationship is or is not meeting each partner's needs. The combination of understanding the present-day relationship dynamics as well as past dynamics allows couples to make long-lasting changes.
